FIL/MMF introduced these villages to Madha Welfare Foundation Solapur and they distributed 200 solapuri blankets to tribal people of these villages. Mr. Bhosale member of MWF was personaly attend the program and distributed blankets. These population are not so well connected with developed cities but community participation for village development is so high in these villages which motivate us to work in these locations.
In November 2017 this project was introduced through Kherwadi Social Welfare Association (KSWA) who under theirIntegrated Rural Development Program (IRDP) is working towards making villages in the Palghar region open defecation free by constructing a toilet for every household, educating the households about good personal and community health and hygienic practices including keeping their surroundings clean and safe.
Ritu Prakash Chhabria, Managing Trustee of Mukul Madhav Foundation said, “To prevent open defecation and promote hygiene in the rural areas, FILand MMF constructed 50 individual toilets equipped with solar lights at Sonale, a tribal village in Palghar District in first phase. The toilets have been personalized by individual name boards and have also donated a mug and a bucket to each beneficiary to inculcate good hygiene practice. In the second phase we introduced to ZF Steering Gear, Pune to encourage their support for another additional 30 toilets at Vadavli village, Taluka Wada. In the third phase FIL and MMF in collaboration with ZF Steering Gear, Pune support for another 50 toilets in Baveghar, Hamrapur and Kev in Wada Block. After completion of these projects these 3 villages are now declared as OPEN DEFECATION FREE VILLAGE”.
Alongside the toilets a new initiative is being inaugurated where a solar pump has been provided to Vadavli village which will cater to the farming and domestic needs to a population of 500 people. This pump will prevent people from walking long distances to the river to fetch water. This pump can also be run manually during monsoon season when there is poor sunlight. Proper sanitation facility can prevent the spread of diseases and ensure healthy households and community. MMF / Finolex have always been on the forefront in Sanitation and would like to play a more active role in thwarting the open defecation menace in collaboration with KSWA. Bringing in like-minded corporates has helped Finolex and MMF spread the reach so that large number of beneficiaries need can be addressed, she added.
