Industry should come forward to develop skilled manpower : Dr Raghunat Shevgaonkar

Pune : Industry and Academia are interdependent on each other. To strengthen this industry-academia partnership work together. Industry should come forward to skilled manpower and spend CSR on education to improve quality of education,” said Dr. R.K Shevgaonkar, former Director of IIT Delhi & former Vice-Chancellor of SPPU. He also emphasized on the fact that in order to succeed in industry it is imperative that the student must acquire hand on skills in interdisciplinary areas.

Dr. R.K. Shevgaonkar was addressing the gathering of GHR Connect, an Industry-Academia meet organized by Wagholi based Raisoni Group of Institute at Hotel Shereton Grand on Saturday. It was conceptualized on ‘Engaging with Millennials’. Deenanath Kholkar, Vice President and global head of Analytics & Insights, TCS, Ajit Tatiya, Trustee Director, Nagendra Singh, Director (Corp. Relations), Dr. KK Paliwal, Director, GH Raisoni Institute & Management, Dr RD Kharadkar, Principal, GH Raisoni College of Engineering & Technology, Dr Priti Bajaj, Director, Raisoni Institute, Aditya Bhandari, Director of Global Education were present on this occasion. This event has prompted MHRD and AICTE to formulate Internship Policy. AICTE has made the internship mandatory for  all the engineering college student across India.

Dr. R K Shevgaonkar further said, “We have to appreciate the strength and positively looking for industry and academia Partnership. Raisoni Group taken this initiative to bridge gap between Industry and Academia. Today, Industry looking for skilled manpower but our graduates are not industry ready. To solve this, long term internships and research based education required. We have to motivate students to become entrepreneurs. To support their startups and innovations industry need to invest. Today, CSR funds are engaging with built toilets and such kind of work. With this, we have to invest our major part of CSR in education. It will help to improve quality of education and useful to create more quality internships with stipend.”

Deenanath Kholkar mentioned that to become successful entrepreneur we have to acquire interdisciplinary skills. internships should be compulsory and long term.  This problem can solve with providing hands on experience in industry through industry internship.” 

196 Industrial representative form 188 industries attended the meet. This was the first ever Industry connect meet of this magnitude at Pune. Dr. Preeti Bajaj brief about the objectives of the event and current status of internship in India. The program were of three panel discussion. Total 29 GHR awards also given in the conference.
