PUNE : Considering last few year’s incidents of deaths caused by nylon and synthetic (China) manja during Makar Sankranti, this year also a city-based NGO Sarv Jeev Mangal Prathisthan has started a rescue operation named VIDYAPRAMAN rescue Abhiyan by providing an ambulance and veterinary doctors with volunteers to save and rescue people and animals if any such accidents take place. Also, he demanded to take strong action on retailers those saling banned Chinese manja.
Dr Kalyan Gangwal, who is a physician by profession and president of Sarv Jeev Mangal Prathisthan, said, “Last 16-17 years, our team taking initiative to ban this manja and take action on sellers. In last few years, many people lost their lives because of it and many of injured. In July 2017, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) imposed a blanket ban on nylon and synthetic manja as it posed a serious threat to humans and animals. However, many small vendors in the city are still selling it openly which is why several people and birds are losing their lives.”
“Therefore, we have started with ‘Vidya Praman Rescue Operation’ which will have an ambulance with a two doctors and volunteers and will be available 24X7. This ambulance has started operating from January 15 and will be functional till January 31,” Gangwal said.
Gangwal also mentioned that 11 years ago manja made in China has started selling in the market. And till now, around 2,000 people were killed due to it.
